Separate the port from the beach
Malaga's historic centre, port and La Malagueta beach can all feature in one trip, but they are different destinations. A waterfront description may refer to a harbour outlook rather than a convenient swimming beach. Locate the exact entrance and the beach access point before treating a sea-facing photograph as proof of an easy beach routine.
If museums, market shopping and evening walks through the centre are your main plans, begin with apartments that support those outings. If you expect to carry towels to the sand most days, give the beach route more weight. A view is an optional feature; an awkward repeated journey affects the whole stay.
Think about one return to the flat
Design a sample day with a morning outing, lunch at the apartment and a second outing. This quickly exposes addresses that seem central but make every return feel like another excursion. The official tourism guide identifies the historic quarter, Atarazanas Market and the port promenade as useful city landmarks; use them as map anchors rather than a compulsory checklist.
For a family, the lunch return may also mean showers, changing and a rest. Confirm that towels can dry, that the bathroom is usable without waking somebody, and that the seating arrangement works when all guests are indoors. A generously photographed terrace does not replace a practical interior on a day when you prefer to stay inside.
Examine the building details
Old-town accommodation deserves a close look at stairs and the entrance. Ask whether luggage must cross a pedestrian area and obtain arrival instructions before travel. A lift listing should be followed by a question about any steps before it and whether the lift reaches the apartment floor.
At a waterfront address, ask which rooms actually have the advertised outlook. A living-room sea view may coexist with bedrooms facing a service area. Check cooling and window arrangements room by room, and read recent property-specific comments without assuming that all buildings along the same street have similar conditions.
Leave some coast for another day
Malaga's coastal neighbourhoods extend beyond the centre. Do not book a distant address merely because it falls within the city and then expect every historic-centre outing to be a short walk. Pick one practical base, calculate the less frequent journeys honestly, and keep a coastal excursion separate from the daily business of buying breakfast and returning home.
